Here it is … the beginning of another school year. And, as usual, one of my favorite parts of back-to-school is making sure that we have the supplies that we need for a successful school year. This year, I thought it would be fun to share those products that I feel the need to actually attach to my desk (or they’ll grow legs and walk away because nobody else will ever confess to taking them!)
5 Back-to-School Products That Need Nailed Down, Handcuffed to My Desk, or Physically Attached to My Body (Lest They Walk Away)
Maybe I shouldn’t call anyone out on this one, but it’s definitely my hubby that walks off with the stapler most of the time. Every time I go for it, I find it among his things! Recently, I decided to replace the staples with some colored staples. I wonder if this will deter him?
My Colored Pens
I have several different kinds and brands of colored pens at my desk – a have one type that I use for marking my personal planner, another type that I use for other things, as well as having colored Sharpies, highlighters, and crayon highlighters. My family pretty much knows that these pens are off limits to them! If I find my colored pens anywhere but in my pen organizer, things aren’t going to be pretty for them! I’ve blogged about some of my favorite pen products in the past.
I’m not sure why it is, but even when I buy 2-packs of scissors, the scissors still seem to disappear! My thought process is that, if I have two pairs, surely they’ll just take one and leave me the other. But, it never seems to work that way! Almost every time I go for a pair of scissors, they’re all gone!
Because I write in pen in my planner, I need to have a nice supply of something to correct my mistakes with. I’ve tried other brands, but I always seem to end up back with good old Bic Wite-Out. I tend to be a “paperwork perfectionist” so if I do need to correct something, the Wite-Out better be on my desk – I do not want to have to go searching for it when I need it!
Bic Gelocity Mechanical Pencils
I have never been a huge user of pencils. This is mostly because I’m left-handed and pencils tend to smudge on a page for me. However, the way my kids go through pencils, we should probably own stock in a pencil corporation. My oldest daughter ALWAYS has a pencil tucked behind her ear; and both my other kids go through mechanical pencils quite quickly.
Recently, we were introduced to the Big Gelocity Mechanical Pencils and these are some awesome pencils! Even I like them. I received 2 packs of them through Smiley and I strategically hid 3 of these pencils in my rotating pen holder! I gave the 4th one to my son to use for his schoolwork. In the past few weeks, he has reported to me several times that his pencil has disappeared! And, each time, we have found it behind my oldest daughter’s ear.
I love these pencils because they are fatter than most mechanical pencils, have the nice soft grippy area, and come with refills of both lead AND erasers (oh, and the eraser – it’s so much larger than most pencil erasers!) I finally found a pencil that I like – now, if I can just figure out how to keep them (and my other supplies) at my desk and not walking all over the house, I’ll have it made!
