Do you suffer from SAD, like me? “What is SAD?” you ask. SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder; it’s a type of depression that is related to the changing seasons. I hate winter. Winter depresses me. But, one way that I’ve found to counter that depression is to look forward to upcoming events. If you’re a SAD sufferer, I’d love to hear your tips and tricks as well!
5 Things I’m Looking Forward to in 2017
High Tea with my friend Suzanne
Back in September, my friend Suzanne and I took a Girls Only Trip to Walt Disney World. One of the highlights of our trip was attending the Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian. I had experienced this before, but it was her first time. I think one of the things that I loved so much about it was seeing it through her eyes. Afterward, she said that was probably the best meal we had enjoyed on the trip, and I tend to agree (and we had a lot of good food). Recently, I saw someone post about a tea room they enjoyed in Lititz (my very favorite town in all of Pennsylvania). I showed it to Suzanne and she said, “When are we going?” So, we made our reservation and will be experiencing High Tea in a few weeks!
The Walton’s Reunion Weekend
One of the very first television shows that I remember watching as a child is The Walton’s. Years ago, we started purchasing the full-season box sets and watched through all of them as a family. Ashley loved the show also. We’ve been following several of the actors and actresses from the show on Facebook for years now. When we saw the 45th Reunion advertised, we both passively said we should go. Then, tickets went on sale and Ashley got serious! She decided to buy me a ticket for my birthday (which is just a few days before the event). So, we’re heading to VA in March to experience a full weekend of The Walton’s. We should get to meet many members of the Cast, enjoy a barn dance and a banquet, and several other fun events. It should be a fun way to kick off the Spring.
Seeing Home Free in Concert
If you follow me on Facebook, then you know I’m a big fan of Home Free and their music. They’re so good it’s not even funny! Ashley and I saw they were coming to PA and went to order tickets and they were sold out! We were so disappointed (the concert was being held in a small venue). But, lo and behold, they later mentioned another venue they’d be playing in PA and we were able to get tickets! So, lucky for us, we’re going to see Home Free!
I wanted to share a video, but they’re all so good that it’s hard to select just one; so I went with my Pap’s favorite hymn. Enjoy!
Using Our Timeshare for Some (so far unplanned) Travel
We bought a timeshare last fall. (Gee, those are words I thought I’d never say!) We already banked our points for our 2 weeks this year, so we can use them to go practically anywhere. I have a big list of places that I’d love to go at some point, so we’ll see where we may end up. Brian doesn’t have a lot of vacation time (since he started a new job a few years ago), so we may have to go without him one week, but we’ll see.
A Christmas Experience
For the past several years, we have really cut back on our Christmas gift buying. We have been spending less on our kids in the hopes that they would appreciate what they receive more. We try to add in experience gifts (like tickets to events, etc.) rather than just giving physical gifts. My goal has been to make memories.
This past Christmas, I really felt the pressure to buy gifts and it was stressing me out. I’ve mentioned before that I would love to go away for Christmas – to not even be home but to just go away somewhere and have an experience together as a family. That never really worked out because I didn’t want to leave my parents. But, this year, they left us! They went to Florida for the whole winter!
So, we are planning some sort of experience that we will travel to, either right around Christmas or a few weeks before. We haven’t nailed down the details yet, but hopefully, we will soon.
These are just a few of the bigger things that I’m looking forward to. I’m also looking forward to several movies that are coming out this year – like the live-action Beauty & the Beast (already got my outfit to the wear the movie!), the new Pirates movie (can you say “Captain Jack”?), and the 3rd Cars movie (yes, I still like Disney cartoons!)
I’m also looking forward to Gracie playing in District Jazz and Regional Orchestra, and hopefully moving on to States again this year (since it’s her senior year).
What are YOU looking forward to this year? I’d love to hear what exciting things are going on in your life!
Five Things Friday is the brainchild of my friend Brenda, over at Quiet Pandemonium. I wanted to join in the fun! Stay tuned because, in a few weeks, Five Things Friday will become a weekly link-up and YOU can join the fun as well!
