Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Red Loop. Today we are sharing some of our secret Disney obsessions.
It’s a pretty well-known fact that I love Disney. I love Disney movies, I love Disney music, I love vacationing at Walt Disney World! Something else that my family would say that I love is shopping. So, it’s pretty obvious that I love to shop at Walt Disney World. And, when I’m in the same vicinity as one of the Disney Stores or Disney Outlets, I can’t not stop. That would just be silly!
For the longest time, if you had asked me if I had a Disney collection, I would have said, “no.” I bought what I wanted to buy. But, when I really stop to think about it, I realize that I (and we, as a family) collect a LOT of Disney things. Whether it’s t-shirts (that we buy or make), drinkware, or a stuffed Duffy (or two) and (lots and lots of) clothes, we are pretty much obsessed!
For the sake of this post, I’m going to focus on my own personal (and current) obsession(s). These are the things that I buy on each and every trip to Walt Disney World.
My Disney Collection Obsession
Years ago, when my oldest daughter Ashley was about 11, we bought her a pin-trading set (lanyard and 4 pins) at Walt Disney World. She had so much fun walking around to the various Cast Members, asking to see their pins, and trading with them.
We realized the value of pin-trading as it encouraged interaction with the Cast Members and was a great way to introduce etiquette and manners concepts. So, when we went back the next time, we made sure to have a pin-trading set for our daughter Gracie as well. She was much more shy; and pin-trading was a great way to bring her out of her shell, as well as creating a fun collection.
Later, the obsession was also shared with our youngest child, Ian.
For many years, I resisted the temptation to collect pins. I mean, what did I – a grown woman- need with a collection of Disney pins? But then one day, a few months after I graduated from the College of Disney Knowledge, I received a set of pins in honor of my graduation. And the pin collection obsession was started.
Since that time, I have done a bit of pin-trading and have collected several Orange Bird pins. I’ve gotten some pins as gifts from friends and my kids too. I also like buying pins of my favorite attractions and any resorts that we stay in. And, I buy non-Disney pins to commemorate special visits as well (shh! don’t tell). My collection isn’t nearly as large as my kids’ collections are, but it definitely reminds me of my favorite things.

Disney Tsum Tsums
When the Tsum Tsums were first introduced, I thought they were absolutely adorable! I love that the come in 3 sizes and are stackable! Too fun!
But, I never, ever thought of them as something for me to collect. In fact, the first Tsum Tsum to enter our house was a stocking gift for Ian last Christmas.
On one of my many visits to the Disney Outlet, I discovered a few of the Dwarfs and couldn’t resist, so they came home with me! Then, when we were visiting the Disney Store in Orlando in February, Brian found the remainder of the Dwarfs and Snow White (it was a miracle that he remembered exactly which 3 we already had!) So, it was a no-brainer; they had to join the rest!
It is not good for Mickey to be alone, so Minnie joined the collection next. And the kids now had something new to buy me for holidays. Slowly and surely, the collection is growing. I keep them on the shelf on my desk, so I can see them when I’m working. (In fact, I like them so much that I gave my small Vinylmation collection to my kids, to make more room for Tsum Tsums!)

Disney Picture Frames
Back in May of 2012, I wrote this on my blog:
I just bought our first Disney picture frame on last year’s trip, but I think this will become sometime that we buy each time . . . This trip, Ashley purchase a large wall frame (that will hold 4 pictures) for Brian and I for our 20th anniversary.
Since that time, we’ve added a new frame for every visit. I keep them all together on a bookshelf in the living room. As you can see, though, it’s overflowing; so I need to expand my collection somewhere else. I think I may start filling the wall around the 4-picture frame (mentioned above, but not shown in the picture below).
My newest frame: The one front and center, with Suzanne, Ashley, and me – from Ashley’s 21st birthday trip
