When planning for longer Disney trips, I always build at least one relaxed day into our schedule. We like to use this day to visit some resorts, shop at Downtown Disney, or do extra things (like fishing, etc.) at the resorts. On this particular trip, I really wanted to see the Christmas decorations at some more resorts, so that was our main goal for the day.
Our first stop of the morning was at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We made stops at both Kidani Village and Jambo House.
We walked from one to the other, so we worked up an appetite and decided to take the bus to Downtown Disney for lunch at one of our favorite places – Earl of Sandwich (yes, I promise a future post dedicated to Earl!) Of course, while there, we did a good bit of shopping as well.
From there, it was off to the Wilderness Lodge. I was pleased to see a PhotoPass Photographer in the lobby, so we took the opportunity to have our family pictures taken in front of their giant Christmas tree.
In the past, I’ve always said that if I could pick a Deluxe Resort to stay in, I’d go for the Polynesian. My fondness for the Wilderness Lodge is really growing, though – right now, I think I’d lean in that direction (if someone else was funding my trip, of course!)
We took the boat over to the Magic Kingdom and hopped on the monorail to check out the Polynesian.
As much as I LOVE that resort, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in their Christmas decorations. I guess with the big fountain in the center of the lobby, they are limited. But still . . .
From there, we headed to our dinner destination – the Grand Floridian. That Gingerbread House is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself! Once again, we took advantage of the services of the PhotoPass Photographer. And this one was extra great! She went out of her way to pose us in different poses and made us laugh a lot too.
Supper will, of course, be its own post – coming to Heidi’s Head in the coming weeks.
We had a great “free” day. I would highly recommend building a day like this into your Disney plans on your next trip!
