Welcome to those of you joining me from The Disney Point and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail. I’m honored to be joining the Black Blogorail this month, as we chat about our Dream Disney Resort(s).
Long before I ever really “knew” Disney, I might have said that my dream Disney resort was the Grand Floridian. It seems to be the “flagship” resort – you know, the one that you see when Walt Disney World is promoted on television shows, etc. (think: Full House). Those beautiful white buildings with the red roofs just scream “Walt Disney World” when you see pictures.
One of my favorite places to walk at Walt Disney World is on the beach between the Grand Floridian and what has become my dream resort . . . the Polynesian.
I love the Polynesian! And here are just some of the reasons why:
Its darker exterior and interior seem so much more homey and inviting to me. Unlike the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian seems much more casual. Like me.
The beach and the walkways. The Polynesian might be close to the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom, but when you’re sitting on the beach in the evenings, it’s really hard to believe. It’s so peaceful!
The gift shops. I can’t really pinpoint it, but my family always enjoys shopping in the gift shops at the Poly. We always seem to find unique items here and Ian just cannot resist posing for a few (crazy) pictures.
The lobby. Recently I heard that the lobby is getting a complete overhaul; and, I must confess, I’m a bit skeptical. I’m not a huge fan of change and there’s just something pretty special about the fountains and the atmosphere in the lobby.
The restaurants. While we have not yet had the privilege of dining at Kona, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it (think: Tonga Toast!) But, we have dined several times at ‘Ohana, and we keep going back for more – not only is the food excellent, but the service here is top-notch. And, we’ve also enjoyed quick service at Captain Cook’s (too bad my favorite chicken sandwich is no longer on the menu, though).
And, while I haven’t had the opportunity to actually stay here, I’m pretty taken by the rooms too! (We are a family of 5, so there are few resort rooms that actually hold us – these would!) My friend Dave from YourFirstVisit.net has shared so many pictures of the Polynesian over the years that I blame him for many of my Poly-dreams! (These photos are compliments of him.) In fact, if you’d like to drool over the Poly a bit more, I’d encourage you to head over and read his in-depth review (complete with floor plans) of this great resort!
