I’m Riding the Rails with the Magical Blogorail today, dreaming of Rockin’ my #DisneySide with 24 hours in the Magic Kingdom . . .
Last year, on Leap Day, Disney decided to open the Magic Kingdom for a full 24 hours, calling it One More Disney Day. It’s hard for me to imagine spending a full 24 hours in a Disney park, but I did share my thoughts on what I might do if given the chance.
This year, Disney is doing it again! From 6:00 AM to 6:00 AM, May 23 to May 24, 2014, Disney is celebrating with a Rock Your Disney Side celebration. “You and your family are invited to dress up for the occasion and join a gathering of Disney heroes and villains for 24 hours of fun and follies—along with a selection of beloved attractions, popular shows and classic entertainment only Disney can bring to life.”
Funny thing is, Ashley and I will actually be in the area for this year’s 24 hour event! However, we’ll be working at the homeschool convention at the Gaylord Palms, so there’s no way we can actually participate. Quite frankly, I don’t know that I would even want to. I’m not a huge fan of crowds, and we’re used to visiting Disney during more off-season times when it’s not so crowded. Plus, I kinda enjoy sleep – I don’t know that I could stay awake for 24 hours, even if it was at my happy place!
If we could attend the event as a family, though, I think we’d choose to go dressed as pirates.
I think we’d start our day off with a pastry and cup of coffee from Main Street Bakery/Starbucks – then hit up our favorite rides and attractions.
Pirates need lunch at Tortuga Tavern, most definitely.
The afternoon would be spent enjoying some “cool” attractions, such as Splash Mountain and the Hall of Presidents.
I think we’d plan to head over to the Poly for supper at ‘Ohana, then stroll back along the beach to the Grand Floridian, and hitch the monorail back to the Magic Kingdom from there.
In order to stay awake all night, I’d need to add some stimulating rides to the line-up for the dark hours – things like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain (which I don’t even really care for, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
I might have to find a bench somewhere and take a power nap too! (I wonder if anyone would notice me if I snuck into one of the bedrooms in the Swiss Family Treehouse?!)
What would YOU do with 24 hours in the Magic Kingdom?
