As a blogger, I may be compensated in some way (either pay, product, or experience) for sharing the post below All opinions are my own. ~Heidi
Once upon a time, I had a really good memory. I remembered EVERYTHING. Then, one day, I suffered a bout of amnesia. And, ever since, my memory is crap. If I don’t write it down somewhere, it doesn’t come to pass. So, I’ve become very dependent on my planner. In fact, I’ve talked about my favorite planner on my blog before. But, today I thought I’d share the items that make my planner perfect for me – and maybe for you as well!
5 Must-Have Items for the Perfect Planner
Plum Paper Planner
I’ve been a loyal Plum Paper customer for several years now. I first discovered their planners back in 2013 when I was looking for an alternative to the “other popular planners.” I had some specific features that bothered me about the other planners and was looking for a planner that lived up to my expectations. I found it in Plum Paper and shared my thoughts on the differences in a blog post.
Plum Paper has a great Etsy shop. If you haven’t found the perfect planner for you, I’d encourage you to check them out. I am in no way affiliated with this company – I just think their planners are among the best!
Paper Clips
I use a lot of paperclips in my planner, so I prefer the colored and/or fun kind! I like to use a clip so it’s easy to flip from the current month to the current week of that month (so I clip off any weeks that have passed). Once a month is up, I clip from that month to the month before, so it’s easy to look back over the past months without having the weekly pages in the way. It might seem like a weird system, but it works for me (and has for years).
Highlighters
I use highlighters to keep track of my work schedule for one of my online jobs. I do the monthly scheduling, and it’s easy to assign a color to each person on the schedule and mark off the dates with the highlighters. I can still easily see the dates, but I also know who is on the schedule to work each day.
Colored Pens
Colored pens are what I use to differentiate my schedule. I have a color for each person in the family, a color for family activities, a color for church, and a color for my job. This way, I can easily look down at my planner and know exactly who has to do what on any given day. My favorites are the Pilot G-2 pens in the .07 size [aff]. These pens don’t smear and almost always write nicely (I’m picky about how my pens write!)
Stickers
My new favorite for planning is STICKERS! With the exception of a few old stickers I had in my planner stash, most of the stickers you see on the images of my planner are from Paper Loving Mommy on Etsy. Again, I am not affiliated with this shop in any way; I just love her products. Last year, I had ordered her blog stickers (which I use as headers on my daily planning pages). This year, I ordered more of those, the holiday stickers, the piano and violin stickers, church stickers, family time stickers, and a few others. And, recently, I ordered some custom-made stickers from her to differentiate my different jobs and which days I have works tasks on my schedule.
Let’s face it – stickers are fun! And they’ve added some extra fun to my planner. When I look at them, they make me smile.
Do you use a planner?
If so, I’d love to hear what you use to personalize it and make it your own. Please do share in the comments.
