Welcome to those of you joining me from In the Mouse House and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail. This month, we are sharing our Tips to Stay Cool at the Disney Parks.
I know I’ve said it a million times on my blog, but we like to visit Disney during the value season – the time that is the peak of our winter here in PA. Therefore, we usually avoid the REALLY HOT days at Disney. But, we have found ourselves down there a few times in May and September – both times are scorchers for us Northerners! Sure, we get hot, humid days up here too; but we usually stay inside with the air conditioner on! When you find yourself in the vicinity of Walt Disney World on a hot day, you have no choice but to visit, right? So, how can you stay reasonably cool on those days? Here are a few ways we’ve come up with:
#1 – Invest in a misting fan.
I know what you’re thinking — “they’re expensive!” And they are a little pricey when you purchase them at Disney. But, trust me on this – that $10+ that you have to spend on them will put you in a much better mood! Or, if you’re smart enough to plan ahead, buy some misting fans at your local Wal-mart. They’re cheaper there and they work just as good – they just aren’t Disney themed.
#2 – Take advantage of the FREE ice water.
If you haven’t heard this Disney tip yet, you must be living under a rock! It’s one of my favorite frugal Disney tips. Just walk up to any counter service restaurant or kiosk and ask for a cup of ice water. They will give it to you for free, and it’s the best way to cool off on a hot day. It’s very important to stay hydrated, especially when you’re sweating. You want to enjoy Disney, not end up in the hospital. So, drink plenty of water! (If you don’t like the taste, you can always carry flavor packets with you.)
#3 – Enjoy a frozen treat.
Sometimes water just isn’t enough – you want something more fun! Well, Disney is a great place for fun treats! My personal favorite is the Dole Whip Float, but there are so many more. In fact, the Magical Blogorail members and friends shared their thoughts about Frozen Treats just the other week. You’ll find so much frozen deliciousness that you can’t possibly try them all on one trip. (I always recommend making a must-try list!)
#4 – Get wet.
There are several ways to get wet at Disney. Each park now has at least one splash zone for the kids (remember: at Disney EVERYONE is a kid) and Downtown Disney has two. Another way to get wet is by riding water rides, such as Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom (tip: if you want to get REALLY wet, ask for a seat in the front row) and Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom. If that’s not wet enough for you, head back to your resort for some afternoon fun in the pool, or hit up one of Disney’s waterparks.
#5 – Take an afternoon nap.
The heat really takes it out of you! On extra hot days when none of the above seem to work, head back to your resort for some relaxing downtime in your room. Close the curtains, turn up the a.c., and enjoy a little nap. It’s sure to cool you off and energize you, so you can head back to the parks in the evening!
