Brian and I just got back from a 4-night cruise to the Bahamas on the Carnival Ecstasy out of Jacksonville, FL. Interestingly, we were looking for a cruise on dates when Brian already had time marked off from work. This one was the only one that fit the bill perfectly!
We booked the cruise through my travel agent friend and mentor, Kimberly Deviese. She is a Cruise Specialist at 3D Travel and she is very knowledgeable about cruising. We booked our own flights to Jacksonville and back.
Over the next several posts, I’ll be sharing our experiences on this cruise.
Welcome Aboard Carnival Ecstasy!
Morning and Embarkation
When planning, we decided to fly down the night before our cruise and get a hotel room so we could get to the port in decent time for boarding. Uber worked great from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the port.
For simplicity, we purchased the Faster to the Fun option mostly because it included priority check-in and boarding, along with early access to our stateroom. Getting through security was a breeze and we didn’t have to wait long to board the ship.
The ability to go directly to our stateroom was a really nice perk! Our stateroom was literally the first one in the hall right off the elevators. It was so easy to find and handy! Our choice was an ocean-view room this time; the room was small but adequate. We settled in, freshened up a little, then went out in search of some lunch and to explore the ship.
Our first stop was the Lido Deck (or Deck 10). We visited the buffet area for lunch (and weren’t terribly impressed with the food).
For the record, the pool was NEVER this empty again throughout the entire cruise! Honestly, I don’t know why cruise ships don’t have larger pools! The fun zone waterslide area looked like so much fun!
Afternoon and Evening
After the muster drill, we went back up the Lido Deck for the Sail Away Party with the Cruise Director. Here I should note that each day of your cruise you receive a Fun Times schedule in your room so that you know how and what to plan into your day.
Later, we dressed for dinner and headed out to see how Your Time Dining worked.
Our experience with Your Time Dining was awesome! While we saw others waiting in line a few times, we never waited and were seated quickly each night.
I always love seeing the dinner options on a cruise!
I selected the Orange and Grapefuit Fillets from the Port of Call menu for my appetizer. There was no fighting over the bread service as I opted for the seeded roll each night and Brian ate the rest! For my main course, I chose the Braised Beef Brisket.
For dessert, I chose the Strawberry Cream, while Brian opted for the Caramelized Phyllo with Caramel Cream. We weren’t particularly thrilled with our waiter, so were hoping we’d get seated somewhere else the next night!
We attended the Welcome Aboard Show in the Blue Sapphire Lounge at 9:30pm. Cam, the Cruise Director, and the Fun Squad gave us the inside scoop on what to expect from the cruise. Afterward, we headed to the Stripes Nightclub where they were having Oh-Yes-It’s Ladies Night at 10:30pm, offering free champagne to the ladies. I drank my champagne and we left and headed back to our room for the night. We were excited for the adventures that awaited us the next day!
