A few weeks ago, I engaged in a Twitter conversation with @barkTHINS. They were telling me how great their products are, so I offered to do a review. I mean, it’s one thing to say that your products are great, but I wanted proof! They graciously sent me a gift package, complete with 2 full-sized bags of barkTHINS, a pen, and a chapstick (they had me at pen and chapstick – two of my addictions!) But the real test was the chocolate treats. Let me tell you about them.
Here’s the story behind the barkTHINS brand, direct from their website:
barkTHINS are now available in 7 flavors:
- Dark Chocolate Almond
- Dark Chocolate Pretzel
- Dark Chocolate Mint
- Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seed
- Blueberry Quinoa
- Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pretzel
- Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut
They are available at many local grocery store chains (local friends, Giant is one of them!), as well as at Target, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com.
Heidi Says . . .
I have to start out by confessing that, in most cases, I’m not a huge fan of dark chocolate. Being born and raised not far from Hershey, PA, I’ve developed a love of milk chocolate. In fact, I use milk chocolate in place of dark or semi-sweet chocolate in recipes, simply because I don’t like the more bitter flavor of the darker chocolates.
So, with that being said, I was probably a little skeptical of the barkTHINS flavors. I mean, where is the MILK Chocolate?!
But, I have to admit – I LOVED THESE!
I started off by opening the Almond variety. I love a good Hershey bar with almonds, or pretty much any almond variety chocolate candy. I was surprisingly very impressed. I love that the barkTHINS are just that – a bark. They’re already broken into pieces, but you can easily break them into smaller pieces to satisfy whatever chocolate craving you may be having.
Next, I popped open the Pumpkin Seed barkTHINS. While the crunch was similar to that provided by the almonds, the pumpkin seed flavor was very interesting. I’ve never thought to combine pumpkin seeds with chocolate before, but I’m glad that barkTHINS thought of it. I was very impressed with the combination!
All in all, I loved the barkTHINS and will DEFINITELY be purchasing them again. My daughter – who isn’t even a fan of chocolate – also indulged in them and enjoyed them (she liked the almond best). I’d love to try the Toasted Coconut and Peppermint varieties next time. Both are flavors that I love combined with chocolate, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy them. In fact, I’ll be at Target this afternoon, so . . .
I also just got a brilliant idea – – – these would be EXCELLENT Christmas gifts for that chocolate lover or hard-to-buy-for person on your gift list!
