DD – Anticipating Disney

As a blogger, I may be compensated in some way (either pay, product, or experience) for sharing the post below All opinions are my own. ~Heidi

The other week, Ian asked me if we could start packing for our Disney trip (in May!)  LOL  Bless his heart.  I requested a countdown chain from someone on the DISboards.  When he sent it to me, he mentioned the fact that 1/2 the fun of a Disney vacation is in the planning.

This guy speaks my language!  I realize that not everyone would agree with us, but I honestly do believe that 1/2 the fun is in the planning.  I mean, I can spend MONTHS planning – and having fun doing it.  Then, once we’re actually at Disney, it’s over in a few days.  Sure, that part is totally fun.  But, by putting so much into the planning, it actually makes the trips last for months, rather than days!

So this week I want to know about your ANTICIPATION.  Are you like me – planning for a long  time before your actual trip?  Or are you more a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type?

If you’re a planner, how do you plan?  Do you make lists?  Do you read websites?  Do you buy books?  Please share all of this great information on your blog so that our other DD participants can glean from the same resources.

~~~~~~~~~~
I make an itinerary (on Microsoft Word) that includes what we want/need to do each day, including any character meals (with reservation #’s, etc.)  I’ve also been known to make checklists of characters we want to meet, rides we want to be sure to go on (along with the  best time to do each one), and even photos that we want to take.  I know, I’m a little over-the-top!
Some of the websites I frequent are:
  • The DISboards
  • AllEars.net  *I’d recommend signing up for their weekly e-newsletter
  • Mousesavers.com
  • Dad’s Guide to Walt Disney World
  • Lance Around Orlando (Lance is the owner of Florida Dream Homes.  I always appreciate reading his blog because he’s honest in his opinions about things – and we almost always agree!)
As for books, I’ve been a long-time fan of the Birnbaum’s Guides.  We’ve used the traditional one, as well as the Kids’ Guides.  A new one that we’ve recently been introduced to is Guide to the Magic (watch my blog for a review of this book – COMING SOON!).
I’ve also added a tab at the top of my blog for Recommended Disney Resources.  I’ll be adding to this as time goes on, including my reviews of various Disney books, etc.  So be sure to check it out!
I can’t wait to hear how you spend your ANTICIPATION time!  Please post on your  blog, then come back here and link up.
