I’ve been blogging for many years. My blog has changed platforms, servers, themes, and focus several times over the years. When I started blogging about Disney and joined in with others in the Disney blogging community, I remember when Gavin Doyle entered the scene with Disney Dose. Many of us where like, “Who is this kid and where did he come from?” It seemed like he gained traction really quickly! Now, in addition to his blog and podcast, he’s got a published book!
About the Book
Stuff Even Mickey Doesn’t Know
When a theme park has been around for 60 years, it hides a lot of secrets. Disneyland expert Gavin Doyle has swept aside the pixie dust and uncovered little-known stories about the happiest place on earth that will make you a master of the magic.
Doyle develops each of his dozens of secrets into a brief story that illuminates a forgotten moment in Disney history, or sheds light on a neglected area of the park, or reveals something new about an iconic attraction, such as:
- Why is the address of Disneyland 1313 Harbor Boulevard?
- What’s up with the Jewish menorah on Main Street?
- Why is there a fake book called “Walt & You” at City Hall?
- Where can you find Sherlock Holmes at Disneyland?
- Is there really a pet cemetery at the Haunted Mansion?
Shhh! It’s a Disneyland secret. Until you read this book…
About the Author
Gavin Doyle has been a Disneyland enthusiast since his first visit at age four. His first memory is of a rainy day where the park was joyously empty. The bliss of walking onto any ride with no line fed his initial love for Disneyland. He continues to hope for the same luck on New Year’s Eve, as he returns annually on the most crowded day of the year to celebrate his birthday.
Gavin is the editor of DisneyDose.com, a website that focuses on educating Disney fans through exclusive interviews, breaking news updates, and photos from Disneyland. The site has received numerous features in outlets including Forbes, the Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, the Los Angeles Times, and many others.
He is also the host of the Disney Dose podcast, where new interviews with Disney Imagineers and others who helped create the magic are shared frequently.
In 2014, Gavin founded MickeyVisit.com, the ultimate online planning resource for Disneyland.
Heidi Says . . .
Over the years, I’ve read several books on Walt Disney World trivia, and even shares a blog series devoted to Disney trivia with some Disney blogging friends. I’m hardly ever surprised by trivia based on Walt Disney World. But, when it comes to Disneyland, I’m pretty clueless. I have yet to visit, and I really haven’t read too many books about it. Because of that, Disneyland Secrets was all new and interesting material to me. My “seasoned veteran” Disneyland friends might not be as entertained by this book, but it kept me turning the pages.
In fact, this was another quick read – one that I finished in 2 evenings. I love trivia anyway – and when it’s Disney-related it’s even more fun!
I liked how the book was broken into the various lands that comprise the Disneyland park. Each page of the book just contains 1 trivia tidbit, which is what makes it so easy to read.
I will definitely pick this book up to read again before I visit Disneyland (because, YES, I WILL be visiting one day!) In fact, I’ll probably take notes and make a list of things I want to look for when the time comes.
Great little book. Great gift for any Disneyland fan in your life!
