Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Orange Loop. Today we are sharing stories and ways you can thank Disney Cast Members.
Several years ago, I started reading about people giving “thank you” notes to special Cast Members in the Disney parks. I thought it was a great idea. But, being the picky person that I am, using plain old store-bought “thank you” notes didn’t cut it for me. And the few sites that provided downloadable Cast Member Thank You’s . . . well, they didn’t suit me either. I wanted my cards to be PERSONALIZED to our family and our trip.
The best way to personalize is to make your own!
So, when we were preparing for our family trip in January of 2012, I did exactly that. We gave them out to special servers in restaurants, to bus drivers, and to Cast Members who did simple little things to make us feel special (maybe even not on purpose). Each time we passed a Cast Member a card, they got a big smile on their face and acted SO honored. In fact, one server at ‘Ohana told us that he keeps a special drawer in his house where he stores all the special little “thank you’s” that he’s received from Guests. He’s been working at Disney for 30+ years, so I’m sure it’s quite a full drawer!
We got such a great response from using the cards that I decided to make new ones for a trip that the kids and I took later that year.
It’s also fun to share with friends!
I shared them with my agent friends at 3D Travel, and one of them requested that I make some personalized cards for her family as well.
Each time we go, we make a new personalized card, with the details of our trip.
I print them out on cardstock, using a business card template. Then, I cut them with a paper cutter to keep the edges nice and straight. (Of course, you could always buy business card paper if you like – that way the edges are perforated and easy to separate.)
For our trip last November, in celebration of Ashley’s 21st birthday, I wanted special cards. I wanted something new and different from the ones we’ve created in the past. I found some fun cartoony-type girls online that I thought were cute. I asked 2 artistic friends if they’d like to create them for me – personalized to match me, Ashley, and our friend Suzanne. But, I’m not too patient and couldn’t even wait for them to respond before I decided that I could do it myself. And I did. Here is the drawing that I came up with:
I drew it on plain white paper, outlined it with a fine-tipped black Sharpie, and colored it with Crayola crayons (the ONLY crayon, in my opinion). Then, I scanned it into my computer and uploaded it to Picmonkey, where I added text at the top and bottom.
On the backs, I added a simple “thank you” note, in the same font and color as Ashley’s name. We had lots of fun handing them out and got lots of compliments on them.
When a special Cast Member called Ashley (and entourage) aside in the Big Top, she found out Ashley’s favorite color and had another special Cast Member make us chocolate covered marshmallow treats – just because! We gave them both one of the cards and the girl behind the counter said that we had totally made her day!
As you can see, you’re only limited by your own imagination when creating Cast Member “Thank You” Notes. You can use royalty free graphics that you find online, draw your own (or, even better, have your kids draw them!), or use stickers or scrapbooking items to create a fun design.
I’d love to hear about YOUR “Thank You” notes. Better yet, how about sharing pictures on my Facebook page?
