It took several trips to Disney before we experienced Dumbo for the first time!
My first memory of the Dumbo ride at the Magic Kingdom was seeing the very long lines for it on my family’s first trip. I want to say my brothers rode it, but I have no memory of it, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t ride. I remember it was situated in the “old” fantasyland, right in front of what used to be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (I loved that ride!) And, of course, at that time, there was only ONE Dumbo ride.
Our first few trips as a family, we totally passed up Dumbo because, again, the lines were SO long. Why wait in a long line for Dumbo when you can ride Aladdin’s Magic Carpets for a fraction of the wait? Call me a party-pooper mom, but that’s the way I roll.
Finally, in 2009 . . .
When traveling with friends in 2009, we finally decided to brave the long line at Dumbo. Ian was just 2 1/2 and it seemed as though he NEEDED to ride. So, the girls got in line with him and away they went! (picture above)
I love Dueling Dumbos!
I have to admit that I was really excited about the Fantasyland Expansion and the promise of a dueling Dumbo attraction. As if having TWO Dumbo rides wasn’t enough, Disney also made the line much more manageable and fun. You’re no longer just standing out in the hot Florida sun, waiting; but you’re mostly inside with fun things for the kids to see and do while you wait. And, honestly, we’ve never waited long.
Maybe it’s considered a kiddie ride. But, I don’t even care. Now that the line is more manageable, we ride almost every time!
