If you spend any time on social media, surely you’ve seen at least one or two PEEPS® memes floating around. (If you haven’t seen them, just do a search for “peeps memes” and you’ll see what I mean.) They always make me chuckle.
I’ve never been a fan of marshmallows (though I love walking past them in stores because they smell so darn good!); but my oldest daughter LOVES PEEPS® (and bunnies, and snowman, and . . . the list goes on!) so we always have to stock up on them during the holidays.
Even though I’m not particularly fond of eating PEEPS®, I have to admit that they are incredibly cute. So, I thought that, in honor of my daughter, it would be fun to use her favorite treats to create a fun Easter wreath. This craft is simple & cheap – even the kids can help with it (but be forewarned: they WILL beg to eat them!)
Gather Your Supplies
The best thing about this craft is that it takes very few supplies. All you need is a wreath form of some sort (I went with a straw wreath that I found in the craft section of Walmart for about $2.50). You’ll also want to grab your handy-dandy glue gun and some glue sticks (I had to pick some of those up as well, hence the reason they’re in the picture.)
The only other thing you absolutely NEED for this craft is PEEPS®, and lots of them! I received 8 packages of PEEPS® Sugar Free Marshmallow Chicks. They were all yellow, and I knew I wanted to add some more color to my wreath to make it look a bit more Springy and Eastery; so we purchased a variety of PEEPS® to add (about $1/pack – I bought 4).
Create Your Wreath
The first thing that you need to do is unwrap everything. Yes, you’re going to want to unwrap ALL the PEEPS®! Trust me, there won’t be many left over; and your family will be more than happy to gobble up the leftovers.
Fire up that glue gun and get ready to glue. I started with the yellow peeps and glued a row of them directly around the center of my wreath; but you can be creative and use whatever pattern of PEEPS® and colors that you like best.
A band or 2 of glue down the center of each PEEP is sufficient.
After I got the middle row of yellow PEEPS® attached, I added the colored PEEPS® in an alternating pattern along the inside and outside of the wreath edges. I did not lay them out first to measure. I had a little space left at the end of the outer edge – I simply used a knife to cut the back end off of one PEEP, and squeezed him in. (Can you find him?)
As you can see, the colored PEEPS® have the white edges (from where they were hooked together). I am not entirely fond of this look, but didn’t see the larger PEEPS® in the plastic trays (like the yellow ones) in the store where I was shopping. If I had it to do over again, I’d search a bit harder for those PEEPS®. Once it’s hanging on the wall, it’s not quite as noticeable; and is a cute conversation starter!
My kids think we should buy some jelly beans or malted milk eggs to glue in – I may still do that; I’m not sure. I don’t want it to get too busy and detract from the PEEPS®.
What do you think?
I can’t decide where I want to hang it! I’ve tried it on my honey-colored dining room wall:
But I think it shows up even better against my berry-colored kitchen walls (picture at top of post). For now, I like it better there.
Get Your Own PEEPS® for Easter!
Of course, you can go out to your local store and find PEEPS® pretty much everywhere at this time of year! But, if you shop at the PEEPS & COMPANY® Website, you can use code EASTERTREATS for 20% off your purchase (valid through April 15, 2016). In addition to sweet treats, there are also some other great options on the site – my daughter is eyeing up the t-shirts and may find one in her Easter basket!
