How many times over the past several weeks and months have you heard me complaining about the cold? Quite a few, I know. I hate the cold! I hate winter! In fact, just last week on my blog, I shared three things I hate about winter. One thing I failed to mention in that post is this – with the winter, often comes colds and flus. Big downer, I know. So, I thought I’d share a few things we do to survive the winter months and the cold season.
Heidi’s Cold Surviving Tips:
Stay inside when you can. (Personally, if I could hibernate for the winter, I would!)
Keep lots of blankets handy. (We have a stack of blankets in our living room and we spend our evenings in the winter months cozied up under blankets watching movies together as a family.)
When you do go outside, bundle up! (Inside our entry way closet, I have a hanging shoe organizer stuffed full of hats, scarves, and gloves. This way, they are easy to grab when we are walking out the door.)
Start your car several minutes before you have to leave the house. (OK, I confess, we are AWFUL at this one. But, I do always think I’m extra smart when I remember to do it!)
Keep a supply of antibacterial products on hand. (I like wipes and hand-sanitizer. We all know that kids can’t keep their hands off things – and each thing they touch is a treasure trove of winter germs.)
And, just in case, make sure you are well-stocked with cold and flu medication. (One of my favorites for kids is Children’s Mucinex. Now, I feel it only fair to mention that my kids HATE taking meds of all kinds. But, as a parent, I appreciate the fact that Children’s Mucinex has everything I need to make my kids feel better in one bottle – that way, I don’t have to fight them to take more than one medication!)
