I’m Riding the Rails with the Magical Blogorail today. The topic is Star Wars Weekends.
Now, I have a little confession to make: we have been to Walt Disney World TWICE during Star Wars Weekends – in 2010 and 2011. Both times were before my youngest child got addicted to the Star Wars franchise. So, we simply avoided Hollywood Studios, knowing that the park would be super busy.
Just a few short years later, I’m kicking myself for that. We’ve all developed a love for Star Tours, and Ian is CRAZY about the movies! (I have to admit, I kinda like them myself!) Being familiar with the movies makes the ride even more fun, in my opinion.
When we traveled to Walt Disney World this past December, I knew that we HAD to take the time to get Ian into the Jedi Training Academy. Since I know this is going on during Star Wars Weekends also, I thought I’d take the time to quickly explain how your kids can get involved in this fun also.
OK, so here’s the gameplan:
Upon entering the park, head directly to the ABC Sound Studio (this is right beside where they do the American Idol Experience). Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Just head straight there! Trust me.
There will be a line weaving through the building (if you’re lucky, you won’t have to wait outside). Get in that line and wait.
When you get to the front of the line, check in. Only 12 children (ages 4-12) are assigned to each time slot. You’ll be assigned a time to return and receive a card with that time on it. Plan to return a 1/2 hour before your scheduled time.
When you return, your child (and his/her group) will be given a proper Padawan robe, as well as special instructions.
Then, they will follow their leader to the actual site of the Jedi Training.
Here, they will be taught the proper ways of the Jedi and learn how to fight the dark side.
They’ll even have a chance to personally take on Darth Vader!
In the end, each child receives a special Jedi Training Certificate to take home and display proudly.
It’s all quite fun and worth the extra time waiting! My son had a blast and still talks about his experience. I’d highly recommend it!
