As a blogger, I may be compensated in some way (either pay, product, or experience) for sharing the post below All opinions are my own. ~Heidi
A few months ago, I shared my “experiences over things” philosophy and explained how I want to make memories with my family, rather than giving them material things. We were able to share some really fun experiences and make some lasting memories this past weekend at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest.
Participating in this family adventure were my husband Brian, our 13-year old son Ian, our 18-year old exchange student Thi, and me! We have all discussed the things that made this weekend so fabulous for us – things we feel that YOU will enjoy as well.
Making Family Memories at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest
From start to finish, your visit couldn’t be any simpler!
From the first step in the process (making the reservation) to leaving the campground at the end of our visit, each step of the process was easy! Making a reservation was a very quick and painless process. After making the reservation, I received an e-mail confirmation with all the information that we would need for check-in. When we arrived at the campground, we were immediately greeted by a friendly man who explained the check-in process, directing us to a parking spot and telling us to enter the Camp Store to check in before being escorted to our cabin by another staff member. (This process maybe took 5 minutes from pulling in to the campground to entering our cabin!)
There’s a lodging option for every family and every need!
Guests can choose to bring their own tent, camper, or RV and hookup to a site. There are lots of permanent sites at the campground, but there are also many sites available for weekend visitors as well. For those of us who don’t have a camper, there are a few yurts and several lovely cabins available for rent.
We were escorted to our home away from home for the weekend – Log Cabin #6 – and were impressed from the moment we entered.
The cabins include kitchens (that are well-stocked with utensils, cleaners, etc.). The kitchens include sinks, a stovetop, and a full-sized refrigerator. Bedrooms contain a variety of bed and bunk options. Many of the cabins also include lofts with several single bed mattresses. Also included is a full bathroom, including bath and shower!
Outdoors, each cabin has a picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill.
A cabin visitor need only bring bedding, pillows, towels, toiletries, and whatever food they need for the weekend. We also took camping/cookout equipment (hobo pie makers, hot dog/marshmallow sticks. etc.)
The camp store is well stocked with anything else you may need for your visit, such as charcoal, camping utensils, firewood, etc.
There are amenities to please everyone in your family!
I was shocked when we pulled in to the campground and saw the immediate amenities available! I camped a LOT when I was a kid and no campground we ever stayed at had all these fun things to do.
Think: swimming pool, basketball court, playground, jump zone, mini golf, gem mining, and pedal carts. These are just the things you see right away when you enter the campground! And, these things are all FREE with your stay!
This past weekend was chilly here in PA so, unfortunately, we weren’t able to use the pool (though it was open and there were die-hards swimming from time to time). We also didn’t use the jump zone; though, I must admit, I was very tempted (it looked like a blast).
Our boys played a LOT of basketball (and made some friends while doing so), we all played mini golf, and the boys really enjoyed the pedal cars. Did I mention this stuff was all FREE?!
We don’t have RC cars, but the campground has a nice RC track for those who are into racing. Our boys really enjoyed participating in the Laser Tag. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest has an amazing battlefield set-up that looked like a lot of fun.
In addition to the amenities, there is a long list of activities to participate in as well.
I never thought I’d compare a camping trip to a cruise, but Yogi Bear really has the activity schedule down! At check-in, we were given a schedule of events for the weekend, and there really is something going on almost all the time. If you can’t find something fun to do at this park, you probably can’t find something fun to do ever (and I never want to vacation with you!)
We chose to participate in the Donut Decorating with Dad and the Root Beer Floats. Brian and I went to check out the Whiskey Sampling, but it was PACKED! I considered going to ceramics (that’s something that I always enjoyed when camping as a kid). There really was one thing after another, but it was easy to look at the schedule and see just what would be a good fit.
Themed Weekends really promote family togetherness!
Spending time together as a family is really important to me when we are vacationing. Yes, the kids went off to play basketball and do other things on their own, but it was nice that the campground had activities planned that encouraged us to spend time together as a family – such as the donut decorating and root beer floats.
We were there for Father’s Day, but the campground offers a different Themed Weekend each week. Be sure to check out the schedule and see which weekend you might want to visit.
The boys also really enjoyed being able to sit around the campfire and cook their own supper! I had a blast introducing them to things of my childhood – mountain pies and S’mores. We tried some fun varieties of both.
You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want!
With all the amenities and activities available, there is really no excuse to ever use the word “bored.” But, camping is also a great opportunity for rest and relaxation and I was thrilled to do just that while the boys were out having fun and getting exercise!
I was able to finish 2 books while enjoying our weekend away. Brian and I enjoyed some nice leisurely strolls around the campground. And, I enjoyed treating myself to delicious coffee beverages in the camp store.
