Did you know? The inspiration for WDW’s Monorail is the world’s longest-running monorail in the German city of Wupperthal, which began running its “suspended” system in 1901. Walt Disney saw an updated version while traveling in Germany in the 1950’s, inspiring him to have a system built for Disneyland, which debuted in 1959.
I’m so glad that Walt discovered the monorail system and that, many years later, my family can still enjoy riding on this awesome system. If you’d like more monorail trivia, see this post.
