Back in the Spring of 2006, Ashley and I went to our very first Casting Crowns concert (we didn’t know at the time that it would be the first of many). That concert made a big impression on us in many ways. Opening for Casting Crowns that night were Josh Bates and Nichole Nordeman. I’m pretty sure Josh only ever had that one album – Perfect Day – but it sure had some great songs on it. Nichole, on the other hand, has released several albums since that time.
I remember what first impressed me about Nichole at that concert. . . She just sat at the piano and sang. There wasn’t a lot of fanfare – just Nichole, the piano, and her sweet, clear voice. Two of my favorite songs by Nichole are Legacy and What If.
On August 28th, Nichole released her latest album . . .
About Nichole and The Unmaking

A two-time Gospel Music Association winner for Female Vocalist of the Year, she has won a total of nine Dove Awards, including the best-selling album, Music Inspired by The Story. Her best-known songs include “Holy”, “Legacy”, “Brave”, “This Mystery”, “Why”, and “What If”. She lives with her family in Tulsa, OK.
“Before things in our lives can be resurrected and given new life, certain things must die. Before beauty blooms in spring, roots must do the hard work under the hard frozen soil of winter. Before you renovate and re-build, you tear down the parts of the structure that are weak or damaged or dangerous. Before we make, we must unmake.” Nichole Nordeman

Heidi Says . . .
There are 6 songs on this album and I love every one of them! Each song is written by Nichole. To me, that means that these songs are from her heart. They are real.
Look at these lyrics from the title track:
This is the unmaking, the beauty in the breaking
Had to lose myself to find out who You are
Before each beginning there must be an ending
Sitting in the rubble I can see the stars
This is the unmaking
And because I know that now you want to HEAR the song:
Rather than typing out the lyrics to Name, check out this powerful song lyric video. I think everyone can relate to this one.
The lyrics to Love You More are pulled from some favorite Bible story characters, such as King David, Zacchaeus, Paul, the thief on the cross, etc.
You’ve been loving me since time began
You’re behind my every second chance
I love you, I’m trying to love you more
I’m ready, please help me love you more
Something Out of Me is more upbeat and reminds us that God seems something in nothing, even in our own lives.
As a parent, I just love the final song – Slow Down. Every day, I ask my kids to please slow down, stop growing up so fast. Nichole has taken this sentiment and put it to song. It’s perfect!
