My favorite food this week: Italian Sub from the OIP
This particular sub comes from the Original Italian Pizza restaurant in Port Royal, PA.
Approximately $6 (honestly, I’m not sure what these are up to by now – but they’re worth whatever!)
I believe you can find an OIP almost anywhere these days. But, let me tell you, they are not all created equal. The Port Royal OIP definitely takes bragging rights for the best Italian Sub here in the central PA area. My kids also think they have the best pizza around. Some other OIP’s make the best stromboli or the best steak sub. We decide which one we want to eat at (or order from) depending on what we’re hungry for at the time!
What sets an OIP sub apart from a “regular” sub is the roll. These rolls are made on-site and are the most delicious homemade Italian sub rolls! I like them because they’re harder than most sub rolls; and I’m a confessed bread snob!
Then they fill them with delicious meats and cheeses (Italian comes with ham, salami, and provolone cheeses).
Of course, they are topped with the regular lettuce, tomato, and onion. I opted to not have the tomato and onion, but to replace them with hot peppers.
They’re topped off with oil.
Oh my gosh, I’m making myself hungry for one just typing this. Gotta go to the OIP . . . See you next week!
Talk to me about YOUR favorite sub/hoagie in the comments.
