If you’ve been following our musical journey, then you know that it started out as a 2-year thing. But, it’s extended into so much more! In fact, I think that we’ll continue seeing and studying musicals for a long time to come. It has nothing to do with school anymore; it’s all about experiences and making memories with family and friends!
With that being said, I had a fabulous time with my friend Cathy at the Hershey Theatre last night. I knew I had to find someone who lived through the
About On Your Feet
ON YOUR FEET! is the inspiring true story about heart, heritage and two people who believed in their talent—and each other—to become an international sensation: Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
Now their story has arrived on stage in an exhilarating original production that’s already won the hearts of critics and audiences alike, with the Chicago Tribune declaring “IT’S A HIT!” and The New York Times cheering, “The very air in the room seems to vibrate in this undeniably crowd-pleasing musical!” “If you aren’t humming a Gloria Estefan hit when you leave the theater, it might be time to check your pulse!” raves the Associated Press.
Directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and a book by Academy Award® winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), ON YOUR FEET! features some of the most iconic songs of the past quarter-century, including “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga,” “Get On Your Feet,” “Don’t Want To Lose You Now,” “1-2-3” and “Coming Out of the Dark.” Prepare to be on your feet from start to finish!
Heidi Says …
I went into this musical knowing that I’d enjoy it. I remember all the songs and knew that it was the story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, but that’s it. Other than watching the tour montage above, I really had no clue what all this musical entailed.
And, boy, was I ever blown away! This musical far exceeded my expectations and, dare I say it? I think it was one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen! It was very well done. The actors were amazing talented and believable in their roles. The story was touching and easy to relate to. There were several times when I had tears in my eyes. And, other times, I literally wanted to GET ON MY FEET and DO THE CONGA!
Oh my gosh! We just had so much fun! It was like stepping back into the 80’s and reliving some of the teen years!
I would highly recommend this show to anyone, but especially to those who lived through the era of listening to Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. You’ll love it!
The Hershey Theatre
We saw “On Your Feet” at our “hometown” theatre. I love that they feature the Broadway Series musicals! We’ve seen several of them there now and always enjoy them. The theater itself is beautiful and we always feel so special when we’re able to visit for a show.
You can learn more about the theater, purchase tickets to upcoming shows, and check out their latest happenings on their website. They’ve got some fun events and great shows – including more Broadway shows – coming up that you’ll want to check out. You can also follow them on social media:
The Musical Journey
As I was watching the show, I kept wondering how closely it matched with their true story. So, one of the things I’d assign for this one is to do a compare and contrast between the musical and the real life story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan. Either writing a report of doing a Venn Diagram would be a great assignment for this musical – or both!
Music means a lot in our family so I’d also assign selecting a few songs by Miami Sound Machine and breaking apart the lyrics to see what the songs really mean.
We are big-time Walt Disney World fans but we’ve never been to Bongo’s Cuban Cafe in Disney Springs. Now I want to visit there and check it out! Talk about a fun field trip to wind up a study on this musical!
