Special thanks to my friends – Jodi @ Magical Mouse Schoolhouse, Mike @ My Dreams of Disney, and Jennifer @Disney Babies Blog – for co-hosting this fun meme! Each week, we each share a little tidbit of Disney-related trivia with you – and we hope that you all will join in the fun by sharing your own Disney trivia with us! Follow the hop and make new friends!
This month – as I am diligently working on the text for a brand-new unit study all about the Magic Kingdom – I’ll be sharing trivia about that park all month long. If you’d like more information about this particular study – or future studies that will be added to the product line – please hop over and follow Schoolcations on Facebook.
Do you know how many people showed up for the opening day of the Magic Kingdom in 1971?
It was estimated that 100,000 people would show up for opening day. However, only 10,000 actually did. People feared overcrowding and traffic jams, so they stayed away. Florida State Troopers were on hand to deal with the traffic issues and were totally unneeded.
By November, though, that all changed! Florida experienced the worst traffic jam in its history when Interstate 4 was backed up for miles by Disney visitors!
Our past several visits have been spent on Disney property, so we haven’t had to experience much of the traffic and nearby roadways. I have to admit that I rather miss getting out and driving around in nearby Kissimmee, etc. I do like the Disney transportation, though. SO, it’s a toss-up.
Which do you prefer? Driving your own vehicle, or using Disney transportation?
