WE’re back in the swing of things with our 2 Year Musical Journey. The other night, Gracie and I headed back to one of our favorite theaters – the Hershey Theatre – to see a show that had been on her wish list for a while – A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.
About A Gentleman’s Guide
Getting away with murder can be so much fun… and there’s no better proof than the knock-‘em-dead hit show that’s earned unanimous raves and won the 2014 Tony Award® for BEST MUSICAL — A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER!
GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. The Hollywood Reporter raves, “GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE RESTORES OUR FAITH IN MUSICAL COMEDY” and The New York Times cheers, “IT WILL LIFT THE HEARTS OF ALL THOSE WHO’VE BEEN PINING FOR WHAT SOMETIMES SEEMS A LOST ART FORM.” Kindly get your tickets now for the musical that will have you dying with laughter.
Heidi Says . . .
While this show was one that I knew Gracie really wanted to see, I was not all that familiar with the plot or storyline. Gracie had told me just enough that I wasn’t totally out of the loop. I’m beginning to think it might be better that way because you go into a show with no expectations whatsoever.
I was literally blown away by this one. The talent on the stage was spectacular. Kevin Massey was fabulous in the role of Monty Navarro. I don’t know if there’s a time that he’s off the stage! In other words, he plays a huge role in the musical and does a tremendous amount of singing. He has a beautiful voice and really just amazed me with his ability to sing, dance, and act throughout the whole show without much of a break!
John Rapson plays the entire D’Ysquith family and is quite an entertaining actor. He had us laughing quite a bit – especially when he was playing the female parts.
The two main female roles of Sibella and Phoebe were played by Kristen Beth Williams and Kristen Hahn respectively. These ladies were both exceptional singers and complimented each other so well in their duets.
I had no idea how this show was going to end – and I must admit, I was a bit surprised by the ending!

The Musical Journey
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder has sparked Gracie’s interest in various professions that were popular during this time period. She plans to do an extensive study and write about her findings! I love how she is taking the 2 Year Musical Journey and running with it, to the point that I don’t even have to come up with the assignments anymore – she does that all on her own!
