Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Green Loop. Today we are discussing some of the best Disney character interactions at the parks and on Disney Cruise Line.
My family has had some really great character interaction over the years! In fact, meeting the characters and getting autographs is something that all three of my kids would agree is one of the best things about a Disney vacation. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve been there or how many times we’ve met a certain character, there’s just something special about reconnecting with old friends.
I could tell you about our first trip to Disney, and how Tigger took a liking to Ashley and kept kissing her over and over again . . .
Or about how we were leaving the meet & greet area in Toontown Fair, only to discover Snow White and ALL SEVEN Dwarfs standing outside! Ashley got individual pictures with all 8 of them!
Or there was the time that Gracie got to meet her favorite fairy – Silvermist. We told her that she was Gracie’s favorite fairy and she took extra time to chat with Gracie and get to know her.
One of my favorite character stories took place in the fall of 2012. The kids and I went down by ourselves to take part in the Ultimate Field Trip for Homeschoolers (hosted by 3D Travel Company) and we were standing in line to meet Aladdin & Jasmine outside the Morocco Pavilion. We had made up special 2012 Autograph books which we had taken with us in January of that year. We took them back in September, and before we even got to the front of the line, Jasmine said “Oh, Aladdin, I’ve already signed these books. I think they are here to see you.” Sure, enough, we had met her in January and she remembered our books! So much so that she recognized them from a distance! (We went back through our pictures and, sure enough, she was right!)
Oh, I could go on and on . . .
But, for the sake of this post, I want to share a special story about my son Ian and Drizella that took place at 1900 Park Fare.
We had had a long day at the Magic Kingdom. The kids were all tired (and some of us were still wet from a traumatic experience on Splash Mountain earlier in the afternoon). There was a bit of grumpiness involved too.
Ian fell asleep on the trip between the park and the Grand Floridian, where we had a reservation for dinner at 1900 Park Fare.
When we finally got settled at our table in the restaurant, he was in no mood for character interaction.
The rest of us had fun interacting with the characters, but he would have none of it.
Drizella was so upset. She tried everything to get him to “have his portrait made with her” but he wouldn’t budge. She even went so far as to ask him to marry her! Of course, he refused.
He wasn’t really being grumpy, just shy.
That is, until Cinderella came along. Ian has always had a thing for blondes, and Cinderella is his favorite princess. He jumped right up to greet her!
And, as you can see, he was quite happy!
By this time, Drizella had made her way through the myriad of other Guests and was all the way on the other side of the restaurant (and, if you’ve been there, you know the restaurant is rather large).
But, somehow, she caught sight of Ian with Cinderella!
Boy, was she ever miffed!
She yelled (LOUDLY!) across the entire restaurant, “Ian! Why wouldn’t you have your portrait made with me?!”
Then, she proceeded to march all the way back to our table and INSIST that Ian have a portrait made with her too.
That experience made a big impression on our family. 3 1/2 year later, we’re still talking about it. It still gives us a chuckle. But, really it just amazes us! How she remembered Ian’s name and spotted him from across the room, I’ll never know. But, it certainly got one little boy’s attention that night!
I’m sure you have had fun character interactions too!
Please tell me about them in the comments.
