As a blogger, I may be compensated in some way (either pay, product, or experience) for sharing the post below All opinions are my own. ~Heidi
I have to admit, when I saw the topic that Deb had chosen for this week’s Disney Wordless Wednesday (Social Media Disney Memories), I wasn’t 100% sure what I would share. While I blog and spend a fair amount of time on Facebook, I’m pretty much a Twitter failure, I hate G+, I don’t have a smartphone (so therefore, no Instagram), and I’m just starting to really get into Pinterest.
But, then I got to thinking of all the people that I’ve gotten the opportunity to meet over the years – at Disney! People that I had previously only known online – through my blog, Facebook, or online homeschool groups. This collage focuses on the years 2009 to present . . .
Some of these people I don’t get to talk to (or interact with) much anymore, while others I chat with on a daily basis! There are some people on this collage that I consider to be my very best friends in all the world – people that if I hadn’t had the chance to meet at Walt Disney World, I probably wouldn’t have met them anywhere.
Disney has definitely been a source of great social media connections for me and my family – it’s all part of the MAGIC that we call “Disney”. Love it! Thanks, Deb, for the challenging topic!
And in case you’re interested to know who all my connections are:
Center: Enjoying tea at the GF with some dear friends – Mindy from My Own Sense and Sensibility, Amy from One Blessed Momma, and Melissa from The Life of a Honey Bee. (These sweet friends are all fellow homeschool moms that I met through my “old” blog. Mindy now works for/with me at Homeschool Mosaics, Amy is a reviewer for us at Mosaic Reviews, and Melissa and I still chat about Disney every chance we get!)
Counterclockwise from Top Left:
Melissa from Disney on Wheels – accidental meet-up at Hollywood Studios (we had met the day before but were rushed, so we were so thrilled to meet up again for a photo op!) I know Melissa from the Magical Blogorail and look forward to meeting up with her at Disney again sometime!
Mike from My Dreams of Disney – technically, Mike and I didn’t meet AT Disney, but since we met BECAUSE OF Disney, he totally counts. Mike and his family drove to meet my kids and I this past May when we were traveling home from DISNEY’s Hilton Head Island Resort. I know it will not be our last meet-up.
Doreen from Our Homeschool ‘Ohana – technically, Doreen and I didn’t meet AT Disney, either. But, she lives NEAR Disney and we met up at the FPEA convention (I DID visit Disney during the same trip!) Doreen writes for Homeschool Mosaics, and we share a work-at-home job together.
Kim from 3D Travel – I get all teary-eyed when I think about the circumstances that led me to meeting Kim and the friendship/bond that has been formed as a result. This lady, while she started out as my agent mentor, is now a very special friend. I was thrilled to meet her last September!
Randy from Your Highway in the Sky – Randy is the owner of Your Highway in the Sky and a fellow Blogorail member. I was honored when he asked me to join the writing team at his site (even though I’m not very active there!) He spent several hours with my family at Hollywood Studios last January and my kids are still talking about him!
Mindy (again) – Mindy and I just so happened to be at Disney at the same time – two trips back-to-back. This picture is from our very first meeting – at Downtown Disney – in May 2011. I just love this girl and wish she were my neighbor.
Becky from There is Hope Blog – My family has had opportunity to visit with Becky’s family on several occasions during our trips to the World. They’ve served as tour guides and as friends. If you think to pray for my friend Becky, she could use your prayers – she has some serious health issues (but through them all, she always smiles and encourages others!) Thanks!
Zach from Magik Mouse – Zach is a fellow Blogorailer as well. It just so happened that Zach was participating in the College Program during my family’s trip last January. We met up with Zach twice – and he graciously gifted us with FastPasses – both times! Zach is a Disney die-hard – he even has a dog named Walter!
Melissa (again) – We’ve spent time with Melissa and her family a few times now and we are always encouraged and blessed by their company. It’s so nice to go away from home and feel connected with people. I feel like Melissa is family.
Meredith – Meredith and I got to know each other many years ago when I first started reviewing books. I had the opportunity to review a few of her e-books for teen girls. She has a heart for ministry and she’s beautiful on the inside and the outside! She is THE FIRST social media friend that I ever met at Disney!
Carol Beth from 3D Travel – Carol Beth is the owner of 3D Travel Company. She gave me my “big break” into the world of travel agents and she graciously accepted my resignation when things got to busy with Homeschool Mosaics. I still consider her a friend, though! I was so blessed to meet her face-to-face last September.
Renee from DeafBlind Hope – again, I didn’t technically meet Renee at Disney. Her family served as gracious hosts to my family on one of our trips to Disney. While Renee credits me for giving her opportunities online that she wouldn’t have had otherwise, I credit God for giving me Renee – a faithful friend and mentor who has taught me MUCH over the years.
Have YOU had opportunity to make connections with Social Media contacts at Disney?
I’d love to hear about it!
