(I’d love to have YOU join me, by sharing THREE THINGS about YOU on your blog! Be sure to link up below!)
Today’s the day! We’re flying to Walt Disney World! Yay! I thought that, in honor of our flight, I’d focus today’s Three Things on my flying experiences . . .
#1 – My first experience with flying was in 1975. I was 4 years old. My mom and I flew to Italy via Trans World Airlines (TWA) to join my dad, who was on an extended business trip there. We ended up living over there for 5 months. During that time, I experienced some interesting milestones – such as turning 5, losing my first tooth, and being taller than our refrigerator! While living in Italy, we ate a lot of pizza (and I have yet to experience what I would consider real, authentic Italian pizza here in the states). We also drove around in a Fiat (little did we know that 30-some years later those Fiats would show up here in the U.S.!) We communicated with our family back home by sending letters and audio tapes (my mom still has some of those tapes!) I think my fascination with the Italy pavilion at Epcot is a natural one.
#2 – I didn’t fly again until I was 30 years old! I remember the night before Brian and I were to head to the airport to leave for Vietnam to meet our daughter Gracie and bring her home. I said to him, “What are we doing?! Tomorrow we are flying exactly half-way around the world and we have no clue what we are doing!” I’m glad I didn’t give in to that fear though, or I would have missed so much! 6 years later, I took my mom along on a similar trip to Vietnam to bring Ian home! Yes, it’s far away and the flight is long; but the rewards are great! I would love the opportunity to one day go back. I miss Vietnam.
Our first trip was on Thai Air. It was an amazing experience. I felt rich! Our second trip was on Korean Air. It was pretty much a nightmare and I wouldn’t recommend it.
#3 – Since that second visit to Vietnam, I’ve had many experiences with flying. I’ve flown to various locations here in the US for business trips, etc. The kid and I flew to Walt Disney World last September and found that we really liked how much quicker we could get there via plane! We even had layovers on that trip, and it was still fast! We liked it so much that we’re flying to Walt Disney World TODAY. This time, we’re taking Brian along. And we’re flying out of Washington DC so we can get direct flights.
FYI: a few years ago, we upgraded our Disney Visa and now we can use our points toward flights! So, we didn’t have to pay one cent for the 5 of us to fly to Disney. That, my friends, is pretty amazing!
Now it’s YOUR turn!
