Last week, I shared some of the things that I don’t like about living in an old house. So, for the sake of being fair, this week I’m going to share Three Things I Love about My Old House.
#1 – The brick exterior and detailed woodwork throughout the house give it so much character. We’ve all heard the phrase “if these walls could talk” and sometimes I’m sure that mine can. They’ve seen a lot of life over the years! You can’t build a house with character like this anymore.
#2 – We’ve got a nice, big front porch. I’m just going to say it . . . I don’t like houses without front porches. They just seem so much less “homey” and inviting to me. People have suggested closing in our front porch and making it an additional room. Ummm . . . no. That won’t be happening as long as I live here because I love my porch. I love sitting out there on a rocker in the warmer months and watching people walk and drive by. It’s also a great place to read or visit with friends.
# 3- And, while we might not have the nicest, biggest, fanciest house around, I gotta say that I love our mortgage payment! Many people I know pay more in rent than we pay for our monthly mortgage, which is a small fraction of the “average” mortgage. So, I can complain all I want; but, when it comes right down to it, at least I have a house that we can afford.
