Heidi Says . . .
Is there anything that you have heard so much about over the years that you get it so built up in your mind before actually trying it? I was like that with Tower of Terror for the many years that I anticipated getting to ride it. I was also like that with Dole Whips before I tried them. You hear and read so much about something that you almost feel like you HAVE to experience it or you’re not a real Disney fan.
That’s how I felt with Tonga Toast. I had seen, heard, and read so much about this breakfast offering that I knew I had to try it one day. Tonga Toast can only be found at Disney’s Polynesian Resort – either at Kona Cafe (table service) or at Captain Cook’s. We had made plans to meet my cousin and her girls for breakfast one morning on our recent trip. They had Tonga Toast built up in their minds as well.
Here’s how the Disney website describes it:
Banana-stuffed Sourdough Bread, Battered and Deep-fried, and dusted with Cinnamon Sugar with Bacon or Sausage
I ordered mine with bacon. You only get two slices, but you really don’t need any because the toast is HUGE! I mean, seriously; I don’t even know if the picture does it justice. I ended up separating my layers, cutting it up, and pouring the syrup over the top.
It was good. I don’t know that I’d walk a mile for it or anything; but it was good. I’m glad to say I finally tried it. I liked it. I might try to make it at home sometime. Maybe. I did love the crispiness of the outside of it. I’m not sure if I’d get it again or not; but, I’m not a huge breakfast person.
