My family made the decision to turn off our cable many years ago. Because we live in a valley, we get NO channels without cable. So, we’ve been long-time subscribers to Netflix. Recently, we’ve noticed several Netflix original shows on there. These are shows made exclusively for Netflix, so they aren’t viewable elsewhere. Quite frankly, most of them are garbage (or, at least, not suitable for family viewing). But, on November 26th, a new Netflix original series premiered . . . Veggie Tales In the House.
About the Series
Veggie Tales, the most popular faith-based children’s entertainment brand, unveils a brand-new Netflix original series for kids, VeggieTales In the House. The all-new series marks the first time in the 21-year history of VeggieTales that Bob, Larry, and the veggie crew venture off the countertop for exciting new adventures, while remaining true to the values-driven storytelling that has long made VeggieTales such a beloved part of childhood. The first five 22-minute episodes will be available for Netflix members in the US, Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux, and France to watch instantly. “There’s a whole world that’s been right under our noses this whole time and we can’t wait to see it,” said VeggieTales star, Bob the Tomato. Echoed Larry the Cucumber: “The sweet potatoes are so excited, they don’t even know where to starch!”
In each 22-minute episode of VeggieTales In the House, two separate 11-minute stories impart important life lessons, designed to please both young viewers and longtime fans of the VeggieTales brand. Every episode also includes brand-new songs and, of course, the famous closing prhase that has been at the heart of VeggieTales from the beginning: “God made you special, and He loves you very much.”
Heidi Says . . .
It’s about time . . . for Netflix to offer some family-friendly original shows! I’m glad they chose VeggieTales. I’ve come to know and trust VeggieTales to be a show that I can safely sit my kids down in front of and know that, in addition to being entertained, they are also learning good values.
Long-time fans of the VeggieTales franchise may notice a difference in the characters in this new series. While totally recognizable as the veggies we all know and love, Bob, Larry, and friends have received a new, refreshed look from DreamWorks Animation. Big Idea became part of DreamWorks in 2012 as part of the studio’s acquisition of Classic Media. I think the change is a fun one! Though I will say that it still greatly puzzles my now 14-year-old daughter how those veggies can perform tasks without hands and arms! Even with the new look, they remain armless; yet they are very adapt at just about anything!
Honestly, I wasn’t sure how “faith-based” the series would remain, now that it’s an original series on Netflix. After viewing a few episodes, I’m pleased to report that each 11-minute episode has a theme based on a verse from Scripture, along with a value that can be learned from that verse. Yay!
