My family and I have very much enjoyed having the opportunity to watch the When Calls the Heart series on the Hallmark Channel. Having been a long-time fan of the writings of Janette Oke, I was very excited for this series to premiere. While the series is only “roughly” based on the characters and stories in her book series by the same name, we’ve become endeared to them. We anxiously await each new episode, and find ourselves cheering for Elizabeth and Jack to finally get together!
I was very excited to hear that Season 2 would be finally making its premiere this Saturday, April 25th at 8pm (EST). Be sure to tune in for this 2 hour event!
About When Calls the Heart
The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
Heidi Says . . .
I was fortunate to get a sneak peek at the Season 2 premiere. I don’t want to give any spoilers away because I know so many of my readers and friends are anxiously awaiting seeing it. But, suffice it to say that it is every bit as good as you might have come to expect from season 1 and it’s filled with some surprises you probably didn’t see coming!
I love all the characters in this series! My daughter Ashley is especially partial to Lori Loughlin since she grew up watching “Full House” and now owns the entire series on DVD (and is thrilled with the news of “Fuller House” coming to Netflix next year!) Growing up in the 80’s, I was pleased to see Jack Wagner making an appearance toward the end of Season 1. I enjoy the character that he plays and hope to see him stick around in Season 2 and have more of an active role on the show. But, of course, everyone’s favorites are Elizabeth and Jack. When will they finally admit they like each other? When will they kiss? Will they ever get married? Some of these questions have already been answered (in Season 1); but I guess we’ll have all to keep watching to find out the answer to the third one!
Yesterday, I had the fun honor of taking part in a teleconference with Erin Krakow (who plays Elizabeth Thatcher). Before the call, we were able to submit questions. Mine was chosen as one to be asked on the call, and I was lucky enough to get to ask it myself! Here was my question:
Your wardrobe on the show is fabulous, but I’m curious if the dresses are constricting and hard to work in? Do you have a favorite dress that you have worn on the show?
Erin answered that the dresses are very constricting, which does make working in them difficult sometimes. She said that she does, indeed, wear a corset underneath the dresses (true to the times that are being portrayed). She mentioned that wearing the dresses all day gets tiring, but told us that she does get to remove the dress and put on some more comfortable clothes during her lunch break! Picking a favorite . . . that is difficult, according to Erin. She actually shared a few of her favorites, one of which is this one:
So tell me, will YOU be watching the Season 2 Premiere this Saturday night? Is there a cliff-hanger from Season 1 that you’re hoping to see get resolved?
