I have a confession to make. . . I think my kids are strange.
Why? Because, so far, not one of them has asked for a smartphone. And, they’re 7, 13, and 20. Seriously. I have a teenager and a 20 year old, and they haven’t once asked. We do have a small cell phone plan, with 3 phones on the plan (me, my husband, and our oldest daughter). My girls both have iPods, so they can text and access the internet from those (when we are in a wireless hotspot). And we do occasionally text from our phones.
Sometimes, I look around and think that my family is living in the dark ages or something. Everyone else seems to have smartphones. And, I have to say, it annoys me sometimes. People are so attached to their phones that they seem to forget the people right in front of them. But, that’s a story for another day.
For those of you whose kids DO beg for a smartphone, or maybe already have one, there is a SAFE ALTERNATIVE available. And, I wanted to share a bit about it with you . . .
I recently learned about Zact, a no contract nationwide mobile service, that has parental controls so you can easily set amount of text and data usage as well as set curfews, such as at meal and bed times. Zact was recently awarded the seal of approval from The National Parenting Center and their average monthly bill is only $22! Are your kids asking for a smartphone this holiday season? If so, check out Zact Mobile and learn how their features help provide parents peace of mind!
